Tough Trophy Cup to end Shaw's Season

PETERSEN MEDIA- Looking for a nice weekend at the ultra tough Trophy Cup to close out his season over the weekend, Kyler Shaw ran into some bad luck on Thursday night, before a parts failure during time trials on Friday night brought his weekend to an early close.

“Overall it was a pretty good season for us, I feel,” Shaw said. “The end of the year was a little rough with some big crashes, but for the most part I feel like I got better as a driver, and we got pretty consistent at Placerville.”

Finding himself in the C Main on Thursday night, Shaw was looking to work his way through the field for a shot at the B Main, but on the sixth lap, cars started crashing in front of him in turns three and four, and with nowhere to go, Shaw’s Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports No. 92 machine made contact and ultiamately got upside down, bringing the 17-year-old driver’s night to an early end.

Looking to put a bad Thursday night behind him, Shaw was back in action on Friday night, as he looked to put up a good points night and head into Saturday night in a good position.

On his first lap of time trials, Shaw went into turn one, and a steering arm broke, and Shaw was unable to turn as he made contact with the wall, before riding the catch fence, causing his machine to tip over. His night was done before it ever really got stated.

“Man, Fall Nationals and Trophy Cup were really rough on us,” he said. “I have to thank my parents and all of our supporters for sticking behind me. It is tough to end the year like that but we had some positives. It is crazy the season is over, but I am already looking forward to 2015.”

Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4st Four Media, Borrelo Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-30, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-12.

Shaw 9th at Cotton Classic with USAC

PETERSEN MEDIA- Shedding his wings on Saturday night, Kyler Shaw picked up a ninth place finish with the USAC West Coast 360 Series at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA during the Cotton Classic.

“Our night got off to a rough start, but we were able to make good changes all night, and I was able to earn the Hard Charger award,” Kyler Shaw said.

Missing the set up in time trials, the Fresno, CA driver timed in at the tail end of the field, but with the car count and the inversion, he found himself on the front row of his heat race.

Getting off to the early lead, Shaw still did not have a good handle on his car as he slipped back to a fourth place finish, putting him at the tail end of the field for the main event.

When the race went green, Shaw spent the first two laps working around the bottom of the speedway, until a caution flag flew. When the race restarted, Shaw elected to try the Thunderbowl cushion, and began making up some ground on some seasoned non-wing veterans.

In what was an extended green flag run, Shaw was able to work his way up to the 10th spot ebfore a late race red flew, and admittedly got Shaw out of his rhythym.

As the green flag dropped back over the speedway, Shaw dropped back a few spots, but was able to work his way back into the ninth spot when the checkered flag flew.

“I continue to have a blast racing without the wings, and hopefully I can do more of it next year,” he added. “My family worked hard all night long, and its nice to get out of here with a Top-10 finish!”

Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4st Four Media, Borrelo Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-28, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-12.

ON TAP: Kyler will be back in action this Thursday-Saturday night as he takes part in the 21stAnnual Trophy Cup at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA.

Shaw 14th with Civil War Series!

PETERSEN MEDIA- Kyler Shaw traveled to the Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night to do battle with the Civil War Series Presented By Flowmaster, and though it was not his best of the season, Shaw admittedly had fun taming the hooked up and rough speedway.

“The way the track was, it was fun to move around, and wrestle the car around the speedway,” he said. “It was sticky, rough, and fast, and really had to be up on the wheel.”

Going out early in time trials did not work out for Shaw, as the track continued to get faster and faster. When time trials were complete, a new track record had been set late in the session, and Shaw found himself 16th fastest, and out of the heat race inversion.

Lining up Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports No. 92 machine in the third row of his heat race, Shaw would finish in the sixth spot, putting him in in the eighth row for the feature event.

With the track continuing to pick up speed through the night, the early stages of the feature event were tough on Shaw as he fought his racecar, as conditions made his machine tight, and he fell back as far as the 19th spot.

As the laps clicked off, the track began to slow down ever so slightly, but that allowed Shaw to move around a little more as he slowly picked positions back up.

With some yellow flags during the middle of the race working out to his advantage, Shaw was able to work his way up to a 14th place finish when the checkered flag flew on the series’ 10th event of the season.

“We were a little tight early, but I was patient and the car came to me,” he added. “We didn’t put on a run through the field, but we were able to hold our own, and work our war forward a little bit.”

Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4st Four Media, Borrelo Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-25, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-11.

ON TAP: Kyler will now head to Chico, CA this weekend for the Fall Nationals.

Shaw 13th with USAC CRA

PETERSEN MEDIA- Competing with the USAC/CRA and Civil War Series during the 61st Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions, Kyler Shaw had some tough luck with the wing on, before turning in a nice 13th place effort in only his second non-wing sprint car start.

“I have had an absolute blast racing non-wing in the two starts I have made this year, and hope we can do more of it next year,” Shaw said. “In the winged car we had pretty good speed, I just made a mistake in my heat race, and then in the B Main, I kind of got used up.”

Timing in seventh fastest on Wednesday night with the Civil War Series Presented By Flowmaster, Shaw lined up in the second row of his heat race. A self admitted driver error saw the Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports entry slip back to a seventh place finish.

Starting second in the B Main, Shaw slipped back to the fourth spot as he battled for a spot in the 30-lap A Main. In what was a wild B Main that was eventually called due to excessive cautions, Shaw received contact from another car, that sent him over the cushion and spun out.

From the back of the pack, Shaw was unable to move back forward, and his night came to an end.

Opting to take on the USAC/CRA series on Thursday night with his 360ci engine, Shaw timed his machine in 24th fastest, earning a front row starting spot in his heat.

Getting the jump, Shaw would wire the field, as he picked up the heat race win, and went directly to the feature event, though he lined up last due to his qualifying time.

On the slick surface, the Fresno, CA driver took advantage of numerous yellows as he picked off a couple of positions on restarts, as he kept his nose clean.

Using some circumstances to his advantage, Shaw was able to cross the stripe with a 13th place finish.

“For being under powered we did pretty well I thought, against some very stiff 410 competition,” he added. “We were pretty good until it started to take rubber, and to run well in only my second non wing start is pretty cool.”

Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4st Four Media, Borrelo Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-24, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-11.

ON TAP: Kyler will now head to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for the conclusion of the 2014 regular season at the speedway, where he currently sits eighth in the point standings.

Shaw 9th at Placerville

PETERSEN MEDIA- Kyler Shaw continues to be a consistent Top-10 finisher at the Placerville Speedway, and that trend continued on Saturday night when the Fresno, CA driver recorded a ninth place finish.

“It is nice to go to Placerville and run well with such stiff competition,” Shaw said. “We battled hard and didn’t go backwards, and were able to move around the track.”

In time trials, Shaw kicked his night off by timing his Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports No. 92 machine in 11th fastest.

Starting on the front row of his heat race, Shaw fell into the second spot, as he chased after Andy Gregg. Hitting his marks on the bottom of the speedway, Shaw would finish in the second position, putting him in the fifth row in the feature event.

When the green flag flew, Shaw tried his hand at Placerville cushion, but the bottom on this night stayed really fast, and slipped back to the 11th position.

Working his way back down to the bottom of the speedway, Shaw quickly found some speed, as he was able to work his way back into the Top-10.

With Andy Gregg getting out of shape in front of him, Shaw was able to take over the eighth spot, as he continued to work the bottom of the speedway, as laps continued to click off.

With a late race caution flying, a green-white-checkered restart saw Shaw and Andy Gregg battle, with the end result being Shaw slipping back to ninth at the finish line, as Gregg was able to make a power move on the cushion.

“Andy had a really good on the cushion, and made a really good move to get the spot,” Shaw said. “I made some mistakes early, but once I settled down and got into the flow of the race, I was pretty happy with the way things went.”

Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4st Four Media, Borrelo Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-22, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-11.

ON TAP: Kyler will be in action on Wednesday night with the Civil War Series in Chico, CA, and on Thursday night with the USAC/CRA Series again at the Silver Dollar Speedway as both event are part of the 61st Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions.

Shaw 8th at Placervile

PETERSEN MEDIA- Putting the wings back on his machine after making his non-wing debut a week ago, Kyler Shaw rebounded from a rough night at the Ocean Speedway on Friday night to score an eighth place finish at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.

“We have been really consistent the last month or so, and it’s a good feeling to see the progression of our team,” Shaw said.

Timing in 12th fastest at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Shaw found himself on the pole of his heat race.

When the green flag dropped, Shaw was hard on the throttle and jumped into the early lead. With the wing slider failing during the heat race, Shaw’s wing slid all the way back, making his racecar very tight, but the Fresno, CA driver was able to get the job done and pick up the win.

With the win, Shaw earned a spot in the Top-Eight redraw, where he pulled the five pill, and lined his machine up in the third row.

On the extremely slick surface, Shaw worked the bottom of the speedway as he battled in a pack between fourth, fifth, and sixth place.

As the bottom began to go away, Shaw lost a few spots, dropping him back into the seventh position.

Continuing to search around the speedway, Shaw’s machine bicycled on him, allowing a couple of cars to get by him again, and he ran in the  ninth spot.

Working his way back forward Shaw got into a battle with Billy Butler as they fought over the seventh spot. In a close race, Butler was able to edge Shaw out at the line, giving Shaw eighth at the stripe.

“I never like to lose spots from where I start, but as the move up in the starting order, you really have to be on your game to maintain,” he added. “Though we went backwards, it is great to get another Top-10.”

Friday night Shaw was in action at the Ocean Speedway with the Ocean Sprints Presented By Taco Bravo, and he got off to a great start as he timed is entry in sixth fastest.

Scheduled to start third in his heat race, Shaw found himself on the front row after a fellow competitor was called for jumping the start, and with his second place finish, Shaw just missed earning a spot in the redraw, and lined up in the ninth spot for the 30-lap feature vent.

The opening lap saw Shaw pick up a few positions, but he then made contact with the back stretch wall, and unknowingly jarred his fuel pump.

Making the trip to the work area, Shaw’s team found no damage, but after his machine re-fired, he figured out the damage, and called it a night with a DNF.

“Friday was a bummer because we had a really good night going,” he noted. “Like I said it has been fun getting more comfortable, and finding more speed weekly. I can’t thank my family for all of their hard work, and the people and companies that support us.”

Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4st Four Media, Borrelo Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-21, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-10.

ON TAP: Kyler will now return to action at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.

Kyler Shaw Finishes 9th in Non Wing Debut

PETERSEN MEDIA- With the Ocean Speedway hosting the USAC West Coast 360 Series on Friday night, Kyler Shaw took the opportunity to shed his wing and make his first ever start aboard a traditional sprint car, and the end result was a promising ninth place finish. “I had an absolute blast racing without the wings, and am already wanting to do it again,” Shaw said. “There were some crazy wrecks to see, but I sure am glad everyone was okay.” With 21 cars checked into John Prentice’s Ocean Speedway, Shaw timed his Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports No. 92 machine in 17th fastest as he was still making adjustments on the fly early in the night. Starting on the pole of his heat race, the Fresno, CA driver took a liking to the high side of the speedway as he jumped out to the early lead with non-wing ace, Richard Vander Weerd hot on his tail. Losing the lead to Vander Weerd, Shaw would continue to stay on the top as he lost a few more positions, but the end result was a fourth place finish, giving him his time back for the feature event. Lining up in the ninth row for the feature event, Shaw steadily picked up a few spots, as he was also gifted a few with a couple of hard wrecks. Finding himself in the Top-10 in the closing laps, Shaw began to battle with the other Vander Weerd, Jace, as they battled for the eighth spot. Though he couldn’t make any passes stick, Shaw was still able to hang on to a Top-10 finish in his first ever 360ci non-wing event, as he tallied a ninth place finish. “All in all it was a great night, and I had a ton of fun,” he added. “We raced well, and took advantage of some other drivers misfortune, and we ended up with a pretty good finish.”

Shaw Eighth at Placerville

PETERSEN MEDIA- Coming into his own during the Summer months, Fresno, CA driver, Kyler Shaw turned in a strong performance at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night as he picked up 10 positions en route to an eighth place finish. With 28 cars on hand, Shaw got off to a slower start than he would have liked as he timed his Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports No. 92 machine in 20th fastest in time trials. Starting in the third row of his heat race, Shaw hooked up in a torrid battle for the fourth spot with Dustin Golobic and Bobby Butler, and the end result was Shaw beating Golobic to the checkered in a drag race, and transferring directly into the feature event. Lining up in the 18th spot in the feature event, Shaw went to the high-side on the first lap, but after nearly ending his night exiting turn four, Shaw opted to try the bottom of the speedway. Rolling his wing all the way back for added grip, Shaw worked the bottom brilliantly, as he carved his way through the star-studded Placerville Speedway field. Getting into the ninth spot as the white flag waived, Shaw was in shouting distance of a pack of cars ahead of him for position, and getting into turn three, Shaw was able to take the eighth spot from Jamie Duff coming to the checkered flag.

“Our night started off a little rough, but we kept at it, and it turned into a nice night,” Shaw said. “We went out early for time trials, and the track continued to get better, and we ended up 20th quick. We got through our heat, and in the feature we just rolled the bottom and picked up spots, and ended up eighth. We got going good towards the end, and with the feature being cut five laps, we were pleased with how far up we were able to move.”

Kyler Shaw Runs Eighth at Ocean Speedway

Ocean Speedway - July 25th, 2014
Thunderbowl Raceway - July 26th, 2014

PETERSEN MEDIA- Kyler Shaw raced with poise on Friday night at the Ocean Speedway and came away with an eighth place finish, and made his debut at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA on Saturday night with the King of the West Series as a local fire forced the cancellation of the race at the Placerville Speedway. “It was nice to get some laps at Tulare for the first time, and it was even more special being that it was the Peter Murphy Classic,” Shaw said. “Friday night we seemed to have a tough night, but at the end of the day, we were able to score another Top-10.”

Friday night at the Ocean Speedway, Shaw timed his Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports No. 92 machine in 16th fastest with 24 cars on hand, and looking to lock into the Johnny Key Classic. Finishing fifth in heat race action, Shaw found himself lining up in the sixth row of the feature event, and when the race got underway, Shaw made contact with a pair of cars resulting in his nose wing coming loose and folding up on him. On the fourth lap, the nose wing finally came loose, and flew off his machine causing a yellow, but Shaw elected to stay on the track, and race through it. Sitting in the 10th spot much of the race, Shaw was unable to make the top work, so he elected to work the bottom of the speedway, as he continued to run in the 10th spot. On the final lap of the feature event, Brad Furr caught a rut and bicycled in front of Shaw, and the Fresno, CA driver was able to take advantage, and steal the eight place finish at the line. “We were probably a 10th place car without our nose wing, and it was one of those nights where I just focused on hitting my marks, and was fortunate enough to end up with an eighth place finish.”

Saturday night saw Shaw and his family team check into the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA for the Peter Murphy Classic, as the Placerville Speedway was being used to house people evacuated for their homes due to the Amador County Fire. Timing in 24th fastest during time trials, Shaw started and finished sixth in his heat race, as he got comfortable running against the Tulare wall, but after the checkered flew on the race, Shaw’s rear-end expired, and he was unable to make repairs for the ‘B’ Main, and his night was over. “I had an absolute blast running in Tulare, CA for the first time ever, and I am really excited for the Trophy Cup now,” he added. “I can’t thank my family enough for all they do for me, and all of the great people that continue to support our team.” Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4ST Four Media, Borello Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

Shaw Eighth At Placerville

Placerville Speedway - August 2nd, 2014

Kyler Shaw Scores Pair Of Top-10’s

Ocean Speedway - July 18th, 2014
Petaluma Speedway - July 19th, 2014

PETERSEN MEDIA- Spending his weekend competing at the Ocean Speedway and the Petaluma Speedway, Kyler Shaw had a very strong showing as he recorded a pair of eight place finishes. “It was a really fun weekend,” Shaw said. “I had an absolute blast, and can’t thank everyone enough for their help.” Friday night saw Shaw start his weekend off at the Ocean Speedway with the Ocean Sprints, and in time trials he turned in the 14th fastest lap. Starting in the 14th spot for the 30-lap feature event, Shaw took a liking to the cushion when the race went green, and never ventured from it, as he was able to hustle his way through the field. Keeping his right rear planted on it, Shaw found himself in the top-10 as the race began it’s home stretch, but he wasn’t satisfied. Over the final laps, Shaw was able to get past Jason Chisom and Jake Haulot to get into the eighth spot, with his brother, Koen, hot on his tail. At the stripe, Shaw finished his night off with an eighth place finish. “It was a blast running all 30-laps on the cushion,” Shaw said. “Usually I am a bottom guy, but we tried the cushion out early, and it was really good, so we stayed committed to it.”

Saturday night at the Petaluma Speedway, Shaw got off to a very good start, as he set the standard in time trials, with the fastest lap of the night putting him in the first heat. Finishing third in his heat race, Shaw was eligible for the redraw, where the six pill put him in the third row for the feature event. With confidence at the Petaluma Speedway from the success he has had there in 2014, Shaw held his own, as he battled with the likes of Bradley Terrell, and Herman Klein. The end result was Shaw’s second eighth place finish of the weekend, and his sixth Top-10 of the season. “I always say it is my goal to not lose spots, but overall I thought we had a good night,” he explained. “We lost spots to the eventual winner, and Herman Klein, who is competing for the track championship, so we can’t hang our heads about that.” Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4ST Four Media, Borello Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

Shaw Ninth at Placerville

Placerville Speedway - July 12th, 2014

PETERSEN MEDIA- Looking to make up from a lackluster performance at the Placerville Speedway on the Fourth of July, Kyler Shaw turned put in a strong effort on Saturday night that ended with him scoring a ninth place finish. “We had a really good car all night long, and I was pleased with how we raced, especially since we were not very good last week here,” Kyler Shaw said. With 27 cars on hand for the weekly showdown, Shaw kicked his night off by timing his Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports No. 92 machine in 11th quickest. Heat race action saw Shaw’s machine stumble on the initial start, and as it cleared out, he settled into the third spot, where he went on to finish, putting him in the feature event. Lining up in the sixth row for the feature event, Shaw got off to a great start, as he spent the early goings of the race on the cushion, and got into the 10th spot as many drivers were utilizing the bottom of the speedway. As the field began to spread out, Shaw slowly dropped to the low side of the speedway, as he had slipped back to the 13th spot, and began working his way forward during the long green flag run. Taking advantage of a driver pulling off late in the race, Shaw saw in the 12th spot, as he was able to get into the 10th spot, as he raced in a tight pack. In the race’s final stages, Shaw made a nice move to get by Jimmy Trulli and take the ninth spot, where he would go on to finish. “Placerville is a tough place to figure out, and to run well against a very tough field of cars is pretty cool,” Shaw said. “The car was awesome all night, and this is another good night up here we can build on.” Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4ST Four Media, Borello Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

Kyler Shaw Pleased With Civil War Performance

Petaluma Speedway - July 5th, 2014

PETERSEN MEDIA - Kyler Shaw will be the first to tell you that he had a disastrous night at the Placerville Speedway on Friday night, but the youngster from Fresno, CA stayed focused and turned in a nice showing at the Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night with the Civil War Sprint Car Series Presented By Flowmaster. “Placerville is always tough, and we just had one of those frustrating nights on Friday night,” Kyler Shaw said. “Making my second start at Petaluma on Saturday I was hoping to redeem myself, and things went much, much better.” With 30 cars on hand for the Civil War Series Presented By Flowmaster event, Shaw timed in seventh fastest, putting himself in the second row of his heat race. Finishing third in his heat, Shaw lined up 10th in the start-studded 30-lap feature event. Holding his own against some of the state’s best 360ci drivers, Shaw ran right around the Top-10 for much of the race aboard his Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports entry. A couple of late double file restarts did not play out into his favor, and when the race came to a close, Shaw crossed the stripe in the 15th spot. “My goal in racing is to always at least maintain my spot, or move forward, but I knew it would be tough to do with the field of cars that was assembled,” he said. “It was awesome to time in so well, and almost maintain our starting spot, and I really enjoy racing at Petaluma.” On Friday night, Shaw was in action at the Placerville Speedway for their 4th of July Spectacular race. Going out at the tail end of the 33 car field for time trials, the extremely slick track wasn’t nice to Shaw as he timed in 20th fastest. Heat race action saw Shaw search around the speedway to find grip to get into a transfer spot, but a seventh place finish put him in the B main event. With the track continuing to get a ton of laps ran on it during the day light, the surface continued to deteriorate, making passing tough as the night wore on. Starting ninth in the semi, Shaw again searched the speedway as he tried to transfer into the feature event, but it was not meant to be on this night ,and his night would come to an early end. “With it being so slick, it really made it tough to get grip, and pass,” he explained. “I tried everything, but it was just one of those nights.” Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4ST Four Media, Borello Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

Kyler Shaw 17th At Placerville

Placerville Speedway - June 28th, 2014

PETERSEN MEDIA- Hoping to build on two consecutive Top-10 finishes on Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway, Kyler Shaw was plagued with brake issues in the feature event, and was relegated to a 17th place finish. “It was a frustrating night,” Shaw said. “We seemed to have issues all night, but we were able to move into 10th in points which is pretty cool, so hopefully this week we will go a little better.” Timing in 17th fastest on the racy bullring, heat race action saw Shaw search all around the sticky speedway, as he took a liking to the high, scary side. The thick cushion in three and four got Shaw out of whack while running in the fifth and final transfer spot, and a sixth place finish put him in the B Main. Lining up on the front row of the B, Shaw got into the second spot behind Justin Sanders. In the opening laps of the semi, Shaw felt a vibration in his machine, and took it easy until the vibration went away, and he was able to drive harder, and secure his second place finish. Lining up 17th in the feature event, Shaw was able to get into the 15th spot in the first few laps, as a majority of the field utilized the bottom of the speedway. Trying to make the high side works as he was in heavy traffic, Shaw lost his brakes, and got up over the cushion, and slid back to the 20th spot. Babying his machine around the bottom as he dealt with his brake issues, Shaw took advantage of a coupe drivers spinning out, and was able to make a pass to finish 17th. “Placerville is tough enough to get around, and its is really difficult to do so without brakes,” he said. “Once the brakes went away, I just went to the bottom of the speedway and babied my car, and tried to keep my nose clean, which fortunately, I was able to.” Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4ST Four Media, Borello Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

Shaw Nets First Placerville Top-10

Placerville Speedway - June 21st, 2014

PETERSEN MEDIA- One week after picking up his career best finish in a winged sprint car, Kyler Shaw backed it up by scoring his first ever Top-10 finish at the Placerville Speedway by way of his 10th place run on Saturday night. “We have been so close to cracking the Top-10 at Placerville all year long, it feels pretty good to finally break through and get it,” Shaw said. “We had a great car all night and made some moves before the rubber got laid down but yellow flags negated them.” With 22 cars on hand on Saturday night, Shaw timed his Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports No. 92 machine in 13th fastest, just narrowly missing out on the heat race inversion. Scoring a fifth place finish in his heat, Shaw avoided the night’s B Main event, and went directly to the feature event, where he lined up in the sixth row. On a very slick track that didn’t provide much grip early, Shaw quickly jumped into the Top-10 and the track was starting to take rubber, and build up a ‘blue groove’. Before it got too bad, Shaw was on the move and worked his way into the eighth spot with a very nice slide job, only to see the yellow flag waive, and negate his pass. Restarting in the 10th spot, the rubber had become dominant on the track, and drivers got into the groove, and stayed put, as any mistake would cost them positions. Being mindful of his tires, Shaw carefully hit his marks lap after lap, as he held on to his 10th place position on the track, and picked up his first Top-10 at the Placerville Speedway of the 2014 season. “It was a fun track the first seven or eight laps,” Shaw said. “You could do some sliding around, and passing, and we made a nice pass to get up to eighth, but the yellow came out, and after that the rubber was pretty much down. I can’t thank everyone who helps us on our car for continuing to give me a good car, and luckily the driver did his part.” Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4ST Four Media, Borello Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

Kyler Shaw Nets Career Best 6th Place In 360ci Sprint Car

PETERSEN MEDIA- With the Placerville Speedway going dark for the El Dorado County Fai, Kyle Shaw took advantage of the opportunity to compete at a new track to him, and during his first visit to the Petaluma Speedway, Shaw recorded a career best sixth place finish aboard his 360ci winged sprint car. Starting his night out by timing in 10th fastest on the black clay at the Petaluma Speedway, Shaw went on to score a fifth place finish in his heat aboard his Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports backed No. 92 entry, putting him in the sixth row for the main event. Still adjusting to the new scenery, Shaw slowly got comfortable as the feature event clicked off laps, as he moved into the eighth spot just a few laps into the race. Getting into the flow of the race, the Fresno, CA driver came into his own, and worked up into the Top-Five, as he held command of the fifth spot, until the yellow flag flew with just a couple of makers remaining, bunching the field up. The ensuing restart hurt Shaw just a little, as he got into the fourth place car, who checked up in front of him, as the green flag waived, and Shaw got out of shape and dropped as position. With just a little damage, Shaw was able to gather his machine up, and race his way to a sixth place finish.

“I was pumped with how well we did at Petaluma with it being our first race,” he said. “The track was a ton of fun to drive, and I cannot wait to get back there and race. I was really hoping we could get a Top-Five out of the deal, but we will certainly take a sixth and look to build on that as the season rolls along.” Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4ST Four Media, Borello Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

Shaw Double Dips Over The Weekend

Plaza Park Raceway - June 6th, 2014
Placerville Speedway - June 7th, 2014

PETERSEN MEDIA- After taking a couple of weekends off, Kyler Shaw returned to action over the weekend for a pair of events. Friday night saw Shaw in action at the Plaza Park Raceway in Visalia, CA aboard his 600 Micro Sprint before he returned to action at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night aboard his 360ci Winged Sprint Car. “It was an eventful weekend, but it was great to get back in the saddle of two different racecars,” he explained. With 27 cars on hand on Friday night at the Plaza Park Raceway, Shaw timed in eighth fastest, putting him on the front row his heat race. Slipping back to third when the race got underway, Shaw got into a spirited battle with Cory Elliot for the second spot, but Elliot held the spot, keeping Shaw in the third spot, but still transferring to the feature event. During the cool down lap, the Fresno, CA driver misread the flag, and thinking there was another lap, he was hard on the throttle, and wo

und up getting upside down, causing damage, but he was able to continue on. “I thought the white flag was out, and it was the checkered, and I made a fool of myself,” he said. “Luckily we were able to replace the parts, and move into the feature event.” Lining up on the front row of the feature, Shaw still had steering issues from his wreck, and spun out while running in the fourth spot. While in his spin, Shaw was able to jab his clutch, and keep his machine fired, and though contact ensued he was able to drive away, but a yellow flew for other stalled drivers. With a bit of damage form the contact, Shaw remained the fourth spot, though a little damage made his machine tough to drive, and he slipped back to ninth at the finish. “It was an eventful night, but with still end up with a ninth place finish is awesome,” he said. “We had a messed up steering gear, a flat tire, and a dead torsion bar, so we really had the odds against us.”

Saturday night saw Shaw return to the Placerville Speedway, where he timed in 15th fastest. Heat race action saw Shaw take the final transfer spot into the feature, to get his time back, and he lined up in the seventh row. With most drivers using the bottom of the speedway, Shaw opted to try the top of the track to gain ground, as a few other drivers were able to make it work. “We had some brake issues, and there wasn’t much up top, but it is harder to pass cars if you follow them,” he added. Though he gave it his all, Shaw was able to finish where he started as he crossed the stripe in the 14th spot. “It wasn’t an ideal finish, but we tried some things, and searched around the track,” he said. “Hopefully when I come back there will be a little more racetrack to race on, and we can have some fun. I can’t thank everyone enough for all of their hard work over the weekend.” Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4ST Four Media, Borello Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

Kyler Shaw Flirts with Placerville Top-10; Finishes 11th

Placerville Speedway - May 17th, 2014

PETERSEN MEDIA- Kyler Shaw and his Shaw Motorsports team were back in action at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, and the Fresno, CA driver was on the cusp of picking up his first Top-10 of the season, but the youngster settled for the 11th spot at the finish line. With several shows going on in the area, a light car counted showed up at the Speedway, as Shaw timed his PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports/Pro Signs entry in 11th fastest. Starting on the outside of the third row of his heat race, Shaw looked to make a bold move on the start of the race, but with his choices to ride a competitors right-rear tire and go for a ride, or to hop the cushion and lose some spots, Shaw chose wisely, and slid off the track, falling back to eighth. Rebounding back to seventh, Shaw would still make the feature event, and would line up in the 11th spot based on his qualifying effort. When the race got underway Shaw found himself in a tight battle with Billy Butler, and perennial Placerville favorite, Andy Forsberg, for the 10th spot. As the trio fought tooth and nail, Shaw saw himself slowly slip back from the battle, but with just two to go, Forsrberg slid off the track and eventually got upside down, putting Shaw in the 11th spot with a restart upcoming. On the restart, Shaw made a look for the 10th spot, but with nothing doing, he settled for the 11th spot at the stripe. “It was a decent night for us,” Shaw said. “The track was tough to pass on, but to be able to run with Andy Forsberg much of the race, I feel like I was able to learn some things, and improve. We are getting better each week, and I can’t wait until our next race.” Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4ST Four Media, Borello Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

Shaw Continues To Gain Experience At Placerville

Placerville Speedway - May 3rd, 2014 and May 10th, 2014

PETERSEN MEDIA- Though the season is still young on a weekly basis at the Placerville Speedway, Kyler Shaw continues to improve and get faster, though at times it doesn’t show on the result sheet. “In a few races that we have ran we have done some good things, and showed pretty good speed,” Shaw said. “With limited time in a sprint car, I’m confident in the direction we are headed, and with a little better luck, I think we are right there fighting for Top-5’s and Top-10’s. Two weeks ago at the Placerville Speedway, Shaw got off to a rough start as he timed his Shaw Structures Unlimited/ PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports 16th fastest missing the heat race inversion, but the Fresno, CA driver was able to work his way into the feature event. Lining up in the eight row of the feature event, Shaw continued to move forward, and get comfortable on the tough track, as he slowly worked his way up to a 12th place finish. “Placerville is a tough, but fun track, and moving forward and gaining positions is a positive,” he said. “We went forward in both our heat and feature.” Last week, Shaw showed serious speed on the high-banked facility as he laid down the third fastest time in time trials before running second in his heat. Eligible for the redraw, Shaw pulled the eight pill, and ran inside the Top-10 for much of the race, until the youngster got up over the cushion in turns three and four, and slipped back to the 11th spot, where he finished. “To time in that good was a cool feeling,” he added. “In the feature we held our own, but the driver made a little mistake late, and we ended up 11th.” This last Saturday night on a very slick a tough track due to persistent high winds, Shaw timed in 15th fastest, and ran third in the night’s B Main event. Lining up 18th in the feature that saw almost no passing, Shaw hit his marks for 25-laps on the bottom of the speedway and ran 14th. “We are definitely getting better and gaining on it,” Shaw said. “We are making the feature events and finishing, and at this point those are our goals. We will continue to run Placerville weekly, and hopefully we can change our goals from just making features to Top-10’s and even Top-5’s.” Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4ST Four Media, Borello Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

“We went forward in both our heat and feature.”

Last week, Shaw showed serious speed on the high-banked facility as he laid down the third fastest time in time trials before running second in his heat.

Eligible for the redraw, Shaw pulled the eight pill, and ran inside the Top-10 for much of the race, until the youngster got up over the cushion in turns three and four, and slipped back to the 11th spot, where he finished.

“To time in that good was a cool feeling,” he added. “In the feature we held our own, but the driver made a little mistake late, and we ended up 11th.”

This last Saturday night on a very slick a tough track due to persistent high winds, Shaw timed in 15th fastest, and ran third in the night’s B Main event.

We will continue to run Placerville weekly, and hopefully we can change our goals from just making features to Top-10’s and even Top-5’s.”

Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4st Four Media, Borrelo Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-4, Wins-0, Top 5’s-, Top 10’s-0.

Shaw Pleased with Season Opener

Placerville Speedway - April 5th, 2014 (Season Opener)

Although it was a night full of bad luck and struggles, Kyler Shaw was still able to find some good and be pleased with his season opener from Placerville Speedway this past Saturday. Releasing a whole new look for 2014, the Fresno resident is looking to improve his career even more during his sophomore season of sprint car racing. The season kicked off from Placerville Speedway, a tight little bullring of a ¼ mile known for intense wheel to wheel action. Shaw’s night started off with a bit of bad luck as he only timed in at 24th quick out of 30 cars due to a transponder issue that left him with an 11.0. The bad qualifying time would leave him stranded starting 6th in the heat race, where he would stay in 6th. Come B-Main time though Shaw was up on the wheel in his newly designed #92. Mounting a charge from 8th to 4th in the sole consolation race of the night was good enough to plant Shaw and his PM$ Investments, Shaw Structures Unlimited, F4ST Four Media machine in the feature event. Shaw would quickly get to going in the feature as he shot out of a cannon from his 20th place starting spot. In the first five to ten laps he had already guided the #92 into 11th place and began pursuit of a top ten finish. However, the night would be torn to pieces when he would be run over getting into turn 3 resulting in the front axle snapping at the left front wheel and a DNF. "We were fast all night thanks to the help from our crew, although the results and lap times didn’t show it, we were consistent every time we hit the track, and that's what we've been looking for all year long. Even though we ended up with a DNF our first race out, I'd still say it was a good running to make the show with a record setting car count." Shaw said. Next race will be April 12th for Round #2 of the Placerville points season!
