Placerville Speedway - April 5th
Shaw Pleased with Season Opener, Makes Gains in Sprint Program!
Story by Walker Racing Promotions (Revved Up Photography)
Placerville, California | April 9, 2014 – Although it was a night full of bad luck and struggles, Kyler Shaw was still able to find some good and be pleases with season opener from Placerville Speedway this past Saturday. Releasing a whole new look for 2014, the Fresno resident is looking to improve his career even more during his sophomore season of sprint car racing.
The season kicked off from Placerville Speedway, a tight little bullring of a ¼ mile known for intense wheel to wheel action. Shaw’s night started off with a bit of bad luck as he only timed in at 24th quick out of 30 cars due to a transponder issue that left him with an 11.0. The bad qualifying time would leave him stranded starting 6th in the heat race, where he would stay in 6th. Come B-Main time though Shaw was up on the wheel in his newly designed #92. Mounting a charge from 8th to 4th in the sole consolation race of the night was good enough to plant Shaw and his PM$ Investments, Shaw Structures Unlimited, F4ST Four Media machine in the feature event. Shaw would quickly get to going in the feature as he shot out of a cannon from his 20th place starting spot. In the first five to ten laps he had already guided the #92 into 11th place and began pursuit of a top ten finish. However, the night would be torn to pieces when he would be run over getting into turn 3 resulting in the front axle snapping at the left front wheel and a DNF."We were fast all night thanks to the help from our crew, although the results and lap times didn’t show it, we were consistent every time we hit the track, and that's what we've been looking for all year long. Even though we ended up with a DNF our first race out, I'd still say it was a good running to make the show with a record setting car count." Shaw said.
Next race will be April 12th for Round #2 of the Placerville points season!
Plaza Park Turkey Shootout - November 15th & 16th
After a good run in Dixon and a week off it was time for the premier non wing event at Plaza Park Raceway for the annual Turkey Shootout non wing only event! Night started good with a good qualifying attempt to make top 16 of the 43 entries. Started pole for the heat and won it to lock into the feature. The main would start off rough tho with a couple of the drivers ahead of us getting tangled up and collecting the 92 in the process after restarting last (20th) with a beat up front axle, managed to dodge the wrecks to end up with an 11 place finish. Saturday the madness continued. Qualified 8th to start pole for the heat. After two failed starts they put both of us to the 2nd row. After the third start we put the 92 in 3rd with a transfer spot until 2nd got rowdy eventhough we were in a transfer spot collecting us in the process. This sent us to last (10th) and managed to finish 7th in the remaining 5 laps. In the B Main this placed us to start 4th and quickly got the lead to run away with the B Main win. In the main the 92 started 20th and ended up with a solid 10th place finish to round out the 2013 campaign. We look forward to what 2014 has in store for us! Check back often for the release of the 2014 schedule! Thanks for the support throughout the course of the 2013 season and look forward to seeing everyone in 2014!

Dixon Speedway - November 2nd
After a disappointing end to a strong run last outing in the micro, the car was repaired and pieced back together for the Kaiser Memorial Race at Dixon Speedway. 30 Non wing cars were in the pits and we set 7th quick. Started 3rd in the heat with top 4 transferring to the main and top 2 to the dash and on the start fell back to 4th but with an aggressive move late in the running got to 2nd to transfer to the dash to setup the top 10 starting spots for the main. Unfortunately the dash was a disaster after losing brakes and ending up 9th. Started 9th in the mainwith track conditions very slick but managed to come home with a 5th place finish! This is good momentum going into the big finale for the season at Plaza Park for the Turkey Shootout November 15th and 16th!
Ocean Speedway - October 11th
The last race we ran was the Ocean Speedway Season Finale. This race was a bit of a struggle timing in 18th quick of 24 entries. Started 6th in the heat and jumped the cushion in 1&2 resulting in a 8th place finish. Track was fast all night Started 5th finished 3rd in the B Main. Started in the back of the A and wound up 19th. A result in which I didn't want to finish up the year with. Next race was suppose to be October 18th & 19th at the Trophy Cup but the car got destroyed that Thursday in the non wing race. Next race will be November 2nd at Dixon Speedway for the Money Race!
Delta Speedway - October 5th
It was Kyler's Return to the micros! Night was pretty consistent as Kyler would drive from 6th to going for the heat race win on the final lap before getting chopped and ended up finishing 3rd. Second heat started on the pole and finished 2nd to older brother Koen, setting the 2nd fastest lap in the heat races. For the main started 6th and fell back to 8th before getting back up to 6th at the midway point. On lap 22 the night would come to a halt as Koen got by for 6th and was going for 5th until he got spun right in front of Kyler leaving no where to go and got stuffed in the backstretch concrete ending the night with a bent front axle, bent brake rotor, and a bent front rack. The car is bare frame and in the process of getting repaired before the "Big Money Race" in Dixon on November 2nd. But Kyler's next race will be back in the sprint car on October 11th for the Season Finale at Ocean Speedway!
Kings Speedway - September 20th - Rebel Cup FInale
Friday Night was the return to the seat for the 92 team. Night was a bit rough off the start with the Left Front brake locking up and glowing resulting in qualifying 19th of the 19 entries. Heat race started 7th, got a good start, and held on to a tight car to finish 6th. This would set us up to start 19th for the main. After some minor setup changes and a change with the highspeed. We were able to get a good start and made some bonzai power moves to get up to 10th by lap 19 but the throttle started hanging after the final restart and would finish 12th. A strong run
Placerville August 31st
It was the season finale! 21 cars showed up for the final local 360 points show of the 2013 Season. Qualified 18th and started pole for the heat race. Got the jump and lead the heat from start to finish to win the final Placerville heat race of the points season! Started 18th and fell back a little but found the bottom and worked back up to 11th where we would finish. Ended up the season 12th in points and missed Rookie of the Year due to missing 2 races this season. This concludes our Placerville Points Season, stay tuned for updates on the next time the 92 will hit the track! Thanks to everyone who helped out and supported us throughout this past season. Thank You!
Ocean Speedway August 16th & Placerville August 17th
After missing a week it was good to have the 92 back at the track! Friday night 28 cars showed up for the Final Johnny Key Qualifier race. Timed in 18th. Started 6th in the heat with top 5 moving onto the main. Got a good start and got to 5th before hitting the rut in Turn 3 and allowing Tarlton by for the final transfer resulting in a 6th place finish and having to run the dreadful B Main. Started 6th with top 7 transferring on to the main event. Off the start was battling for 5th when we got cocked side ways due to the rut and another car hitting us sending him flipping. Quickly the 92 got to the work area where it was discovered there was a LR Shock broken. Got it replaced and sent back out restarting 10th. Driver was on the wheel and got to 6th with a photo finish for 5th at the line! Started 21st in the main and early on picked up spots until getting lapped by Golobic. A couple laps later a car we were racing with for position got out of shape in front of Shane causing the 92 with no where to go and tore up the front end ending our night. Saturday 26 cars showed up and unfortunately timed in 21st putting us behind the inversion starting 8th in the heat. Finished 7th and yet again was in a B Main. Started 8th quickly got to 7th and with a slider on the last lap finished 6th, putting us in the "alternate" position. With Koen scratching this would put us in the A Main starting 20t. Ended up the night in a pretty pleasing 13th place finish. The 92 team will be off next weekend and be back at Placerville August 31st for the points finale!
The night started off rough with a god qualifying run of 16th but a mag connection issue would park us in the heat while running 2nd. Started 4th in the B Main and finished 3rd behind Decaires and Andy Gregg. Main Event started 15th and finished 11th catfishing on the bottom. A great run and rebound and we currently sit 12th in the points!
Ocean Speedway - July 26th & Placerville July 27th
Friday night was a little rough. Of 21 cars qualified 13th. Missed the heat race inversion by one spot. Finished 5th in the heat. Started 12th and finished 15th. Saturday was a different story. 29 cars in the pits qualified an outstanding 7th. Won my heat. Started 7th and finished 7th after running 6th gaining on 5th the last half of the race before a torsion stop broke with 4 to go. A great run. First top 10 and best finish at Placerville! Next race is next Saturday the 2nd at Placerville!
Ocean Speedway - Juuly 19th & Placerville July 20th
With things going good lately for the 92 team we were due for a rough weekend and unfortunately it was this past one. Started off good in Watsonville with 24 cars and timing in 11th. Started pole for the heat and finished 3rd to Bud Kaeding and Dominic Scelzi. Main Event Kyler started 10th and ran there until mid race and fell back to 14th then on the last lap got hit on the right front sending the 92 spinning into the infield and being credited with 18th. Placerville Saturday again started off well with 21 cars and qualifying 7th. Then in the heat got shuffled back and went from 4th to 6th missing the transfer to get the time back. Started 12th and got to 11th before jumping the cushion then a couple laps later a car spun in front of us and when for the first sprint car flip. This would end our night with a pretty tore up car. We will get this car back together and be back for next weekend to do it again at Watsonville and Placerville!
Placerville - July 13th
It was good to be back in the seat after a week off, but it was a rough one.. Drew the last position for qualifying and qualified 21st of 25, missing the heat race inversion. Started 8th and finished 7th. Had to run the B, and started 8th finished 6th one spot out of a transfer spot. However didn't go down without putting pressure on the final transfer spot and giving him a few nudges, We will be getting ready for a double header this weekend with Watsonville Friday and Placerville Saturday.
Ocean Speedway - June 28th
Being it was going to be a couple week break, decided to run Ocean Speedway for the first time! Overall it was a great night. Qualified in the mix with some veterans with 3rd quick! Out qualified Brad Furr and Bud Kaeding! Finished 4th in the heat and started 4th in the main. Ran 3rd until lap 12 and ran 4th until a lap 21 restart when Kyler was told to try the top and fell back to finish 10th. Overall a strong run for the 92! Will be back in the car July 13th at Placerville Speedway!
After a mishap Friday night, the car was back together and ready for another night of racing by the afternoon! Started off fabulous with a 13th placer qualifying effort. Heat race started outside of "The Shark" Sean Becker on the front row. He got the jump and would take his first ever heat race win! Ahead of vetran sprint car driver Willie Croft! This locked him straight into the Main Event starting 11th along side of older brother Koen. Track was very dry slick and on the start narrowly avoided a flipping Shane Golobic right in front of us. With track conditions a bit tricky, managed to finish 15th racing with some big names. Best finish so far at Placerville Speedway!
Silver Dollar Speedway-Civil War #8-June 21st
After a good run in Hanford that resulted in a part failure, Kyler got his second chance and first shot at Chico's famed Silver Dollar Speedway. Started off with a 21st qualifying run. An error in the heat race with him falling off the edge drew a yellow, but managed to still get by a car and finish 7th. In the B Main they were sending one car home. Kyler started 5th and quickly got to 3rd in the opening lap before another issue erupted. The studs to the rear end had ripped out sending the torque tube out the rear of the car and the drive line ripping the coupler out of the rear end with the driveline still spinning in the U Joint. This would unfortunately end Kylers second race in a row. But we got it back together to get ready for Placerville the next night!
Kings Speedway-Civil War #7-June 15th
Kyler got the approval to make his Civil War debut in Hanford! Started off qualifying 21st of 43 cars. Started pole for the heat and got the jump to lead the first 5 laps until the brake rotor hub fractured giving him no brakes and the car too tight. He would fade back to 7th. This was the 3rd brake rotor hub in 2 races. This would end Kyler's night. We will get this issue resolved and be back next weekend!
Placerville June 8th
After being off for a couple weeks Kyler was ready to go at placerville. 21 cars were in attendance. Qualified 14th with the fuel switch half way. Started pole for the heat race had a stumble ran 4th until a red with 4 to go. On the restart got tight on the cushion and fell to last but pulled an aggressive slide job to get back to the final transfer where we had finished. Turned out we had a right rear losing air which caused the tightness on the restart. Also had the torque tube studs fall out and resulted in the driveline snapping after the checkered. After making repairs Kyler started 13th quickly got up to 10th until he fell back when biking on the cushion. Ended up finishing 17th but definitely found some speed. Next Placerville race will be June 22nd.
This past weekend, who use to be known as a catfish in the micros has now graduated to a Highside Hustler. In his forth sprint car start this past weekend Kyler qualified 14th of 27 cars. Started 2nd and finished 3rd in his heat race. Main event started 13th and was running the cushion to get to 10th before falling back due to the mud cover getting blasted off and packing the right rear full of clay. He would hold on to a 18th place finish. A tough run but he will be back in action June 8th for the next Placerville Speedway points show!
After a weekend off it was good to be back in the sprint car. After coming close and missing the feature the first two races. The third time was the charm. Qualified 18th of 27 entries, which was good enough to make the heat race inversion. Started pole and ran good to finish 2nd to Veteran driver Colby Weisz. Started 18th in the main and finished a good 17th. Got some laps in and got some more experience and ran the cushion of 3 and 4 like a pro. See if we can better ourselves yet again this coming Saturday back at Placerville!
Plaza Park April 26th
Being I had a weekend off in the sprint car. Decided to take the wing off the micro for the first time at Plaza Park in the open 600 class. It took a few laps in practice to get a feel for a micro again. Qualifying was disastrous with the fuel pickup not working out well. Qualified 12th of 12. Heat race started 6th quickly got to 5th and got run over. On the restart got to 4th and got run over again. Ended up in 5th. Started 10th in the main event and within 2 laps quickly got to 7th. Track was fast with a good cushion. Pulled a nice slider in turn 3 late in the race to take over the 5th spot, where I would finish. Good run for my first open non wing 600 race at Plaza. Next race will be back in the 360 May 11th at Placerville!
Placerville April 20th
After a good debut and a good chance to get use to the bigger car, it was time to work on getting quicker. 25 cars showed up and I qualified 21st. Started 7th in the heat and finished 6th, one spot shy of a transfer spot..B Main started 6th, but 4th place starter didn't make the call. Putting me in 4th starting spot. Start was perfect and I quickly got to 3rd on the high side of 1. But the tricky turn 3 cushion got me knocking me sideways but made a recovery. I restarted in the 5th and final transfer spot until a late restart with 4 to go. Didn't get the best restart, and lost the transfer spot with the 34 car pulling a bonzai move in turn 1 that stuck. Ended up 1 spot short of making my first 360 A Main. Will try again May 11th at Placerville!
Placerville April 13th
Finally the time came to make the Sprint Car debut! The results weren't too important this round. What was important was getting laps and improving. It was only my first race ever in a sprint car. I ran pretty good with getting comfortable with getting on the cushion and getting a good feel for the car. Out of 25 cars I qualified 21st. Heat race I fell off the turn 1 edge early, but still passed a car on the outside to get 7th. B Main I started 6th with top 5 transferring. Everyone went to the bottom and I tried the top and actually passed for the transfer spot but then got tight and pushed to the wall. Finished 8th. Going to make some minor comfortable changes before trying it again April 20th!
Preparation for 2013
With the season opener quickly approaching and motor still being rebuilt, Kyler got to turn some laps in his brother's #88 KPC Chassis Sprint Car for the first time. Practice went well and the sprint car is definitely a huge change from the micro. Kyler was picking up the pace each time he hit the track. Getting in 4 10 lap practice sessions, he feels some what comfortable before getting to run his #92 Hurricane Chassis 360 Sprint car. First race will be in Ocean Speedwat in Watsonville Friday March 30th! Stay tuned here on Kyler Shaw Motorsports Website for the latest on Kyler Shaw's Racing Season!
Tulsa Debut in the Stock Open class went well but came with a few challenges. Stock Winged started 3rd and battled for the lead but fell to finish 5th. Car was ill handling and had room for improvement. This put us straight to a C Main. Started 4th and battled for first and second strongly. Came up just a bit short but finished in the third and final transfer spot to the B Main. Started 15th in the B and came through the field to finish 11th on a rubbered up track. Non Wing started 5th and quickly moved to 3rd puttting pressure on second and first. Second place openned the door and I went for it resulting in me high centered on the berm and putting me to the back on a restart. Restarting 8th I managed to rebound to finish 5th. Realed in the front 4 cars just ran out of laps. In the C Main I started 4th and quickly moved to 2nd and would finish there, however at the scales the winner weighed too light resulting in me being declared the winner. This transfered me to the B Main where we had to start 15th. They transfered the top 2 and I quickly made moves with slide jobs and going where everyone else wasn't. I finished 6th. Good run just not enough laps to get the job done. We will take this off season and get geared up for 2013! See everyone at the track and Thank You everyone that helped make this season possible!
